Tip #65: Wear shoe covers.

This seems like a no-brainer, but wearing booties or shoe covers is perhaps not as common as it should be.

Some people (especially residential customers) are fanatical about keeping a clean house. If you do residential work, you've probably taken off your boots at some point to enter someone's home at some point.

But it you show up with booties you'll:

  • Actually keep their home or business cleaner!
  • Probably convince them that you can leave your boots on, saving time.
  • Signal that you get them.

Let's go into that last point a little more:

Imagine that you're hiring a new employee or you're going to be working with a new guy. Who do you want to work with? The dude with a messy truck and old, rusty tools? Or the guy with a neat truck and clean, organized tools?

Many customers don't know if they can trust you, so they'll be looking for trust signals. If you show up with booties, you're signalling that you work clean and this will help put customers at ease that you'll do good work.
