Tip #12: Set up a cleaning station.

A cleaning station can be on your work truck or on the job site.

A dedicated cleaning station can consist of cleaning spray, gloves, booties, paper towels, small bottles of solvent, a dustpan/brush combo - whatever you need to leave the jobsite just a little better than you found it.

Want to really impress a customer?

  1. Put your cleaning stuff in a bin or a bucket.
  2. Slap a huge "DAILY CLEANING MATERIALS" label on it.
  3. Put it on the jobsite where your customer can see it.
  4. Use it!!

Cleaning and cleanup is probably neglected because most people don't see it as core to their work. You might not care about how clean you leave a jobsite, but customers definitely do!

If you work with anything wet (paint, pipe dope, filler, water, oil) or dusty (sawdust, sanding dust, refrigeration cleanout) and you're asking the customer for paper towels or a broom, you're doing it wring.
