Ryan's 2017 Chevy Express is set up for commercial and industrial HVAC work.

He's got a straightforward setup with a few little tricks that deal with the larger scale of the work he does.

Check out his Youtube channel for some great commercial/industrial HVAC videos.

Easy Door Access

Ryan has a few things in the side cargo door area and in those "funny" spaces where not much can fit:

  • Cleaning brushes
  • Foam knee pad
  • Flashlight
  • First kit
  • Folding cart
  • Fire extinguisher

These are all pretty generic items that you might use on any jobsite.

Files or No Files?

At the side cargo door, Ryan uses a 2 drawer metal filing cabinet to store DeWalt battery-powered tools, grinder wheels, drills bits, meters, and some miscellaneous other tools.

Filing cabinets are a pretty decent solution to storage since they can often be found cheaply at yard and rummage sales. Some things that are good about them:

  • The drawers are big, so you can fit tools that are awkward shapes.
  • They're steel, so you can stick magnetized tool holders or bit cases to them.
  • They're cheap, so if you beat one up or decide to upgrade to a commercial truck drawer, you probably won't care about it.

He also attached a steel toolbox to the top of the file cabinet with sheetmetal screws that holds some hand tools.

Daisy Chains

Ryan keeps a lot of extension cords on his truck: there are two 100 footers on a shelf and several 50' and unders that he keeps neatly dasiy-chained on the door. It's easy to see which cord is which and they won't tangle when uncoiling.

Lots of Hose!

Ryan says he has about 550' of hose on this truck! About 350' is collapsible - it takes up very little space in a 5 gallon bucket.

Collapsible hose is a great way to save space on your truck. It can literally save you cubic feet of space and will store in places that you couldn't store a normal hose. Many plumbers and HVAC techs store a normal hose on a door, so think about what you can put there if the hose was somewhere else.

The rest of his hose is typical heavy duty 5/8" hose and hangs on the rear cargo door.

Ladders

Ryan's got a several ladders on this truck, 2 extension ladders and 2 step ladders. He manages these with a Weather Guard drop down ladder rack.
