ABOUT THE ORGANIZER

KennyMolotov

Sigma Plumbing Ltd.

Toronto, ON Canada

Kenny Molotov's truck is smaller (in other words, great in the city!) and parts-laden.

It's set up primarily for service work plumbing in highrise buildings, the family business' meat and potatoes.

Grabs These First

Tools that are always ready to go:

Slip joint pliers, a screwdriver, and an adjustable wrench are in a pocket on the driver door and are the first tools Kenny grabs to check something out. Hand sanitizer and gloves are also always at the ready.

Safety glasses are another thing he's accustomed to always bringing on the job. If you've ever worked on your back under a grungy laminate countertop, you know why!

No Germs

Pre-Covid, Kenny and his father were already making frequent use of gloves and hand sanitizer in their work. So while they've gotten used to masking up, keeping their hands clean was always a priority.

Masks now sit on the front seat and are ready to go when they enter a building.

Go Bag

Kenny's got one main Go Bag that has most of the tools he expects to need on a job. It fits an acetylene C tank, although he leaves a B tank on the truck in case he runs into some larger pipe.

His bag is on wheels, which means it's easier to transport into the highrise buildings they work in.

Simple Organization

Kenny carries lots of parts on the van!

Some work truck setups are very tool-oriented. Owners of tool-oriented trucks tend to organize by how often they need something.

This truck is organized into plumbing stations. He's got:

  • the toilet kit
  • a vanity station
  • a supply line station
  • a water closet station
  • a coupling station
  • a kitchen station
  • a cartridge station
  • a bathtub station
  • ABS bins

He makes sure to keep at least one of everything (that he typically needs) so that he can do jobs at night or when the supply house is closed.

At the side door, he keeps some of his lesser used tools. These are larger, heavier things like drain cleaners and pex tools.

Inventory Management

Parts are spread in a few different places. Clear-topped DeWalt organizers hold things like pex fittings and copper. It's easy to see when something is running low.
